Description
This course is a deep dive into the creation of the U.S. Constitution as it actually happened – not as many are led to believe it happened. Professor Allen C. Guelzo, Ph.D. offers a compelling narrative, supported by artifacts from the Smithsonian, to tell the story of America’s founding—great men who debated, argued, persuaded, and negotiated their way to the U.S. Constitution. This story is as dramatic and instructive as any in the nation’s history. It includes 36 of the well-known – and the lesser-known, remarkable men who played their own unique role in the creation (and survival) of American democracy. Part 2 continues this fascinating story with the debates over content of the proposed Constitution through the first challenges to the new nation. See course #450 for Part 1. Part 3 will be in the spring 2024.
